THE AREA

Hvar is also the name of the chic capital of this captivating island in Croatia’s Dalmatian region. The place to go is Groda, an area of quaint alleys which run north from Hvar Town’s main square. This area is full of atmosphere and charm and real foodie paradise.

THINGS TO DO

St Stephen’s Cathedral
This cathedral’s square Renaissance bell tower is an unforgettable sight in the evenings. Its luminous white stone catches the last of the evening sun and you can see right through the structure’s narrow arches. The church itself houses an impressive collection of Renaissance art.

St Stephen’s Square
Running from St Stephen’s Cathedral down to the harbour, Hvar Town’s “pjaca” (central plaza) is the largest in Dalmatia, at 4,500 square metres. A long, irregular shape, the square is the centre of Hvar’s social world, with cafes and restaurants that spill out onto the polished flagstones in summer.
