Considered as the Caribbean of Greece, Lefkada island amazes visitors with the exotic blue colour of its beaches. Connected to the mainland through a small bridge, Lefkada can actually be accessed by car, so there is no need for a ferry. Lefkada remains one of the Ionian’s most unspoiled destinations.


This is the perfect place for families, couples and large groups of friends, as it has something for everyone. The beaches, on the western coast of Lefkada distinguish for the wonderful colour and the impressive landscape, particularly Porto Katsiki, Egremni and Kathisma. Around the island, visitors can find lovely villages with fish taverns by the sea and surrounded by lush greenery. Lefkada restaurants are found almost anywhere, in any beach and village. Most Lefkada restaurants are located at the port promenades of touristic places, like Lefkada Town, Vassiliki, Agios Nikitas, Sivota, Nydri and Nikiana. Some very nice places to eat with excellent sea view are found above the beaches of Porto Katsiki, Egremni, Kathisma and Gialos. Dishes are traditional and made with local fresh products.

Lefkada is worldly known for its sky blue beaches and out of the norm landscapes. Here are some of the best beaches to look out for when you visit this exotic Island. Egremni Beach : This beach is considered the best beach in the Mediterranean! It won the 2015 Travelers choice award. This 2km stretch beach is unbelievably beautiful with its white sand and sky blue waters. Porto Katsiki : This is one of the most popular beaches in Greece. Its white sands and crystal clear waters are well hidden by beautiful large white cliffs in the background. Kathisma Beach : an organized beach with umbrellas, sun beds, beach bar and water sports. The scenery is amazing; white cliffs, white sand and blue waters. Your in-resort concierge will be delighted to help you with booking activities.


Lefkada is also recommended for scuba diving and paragliding. Nautilus Diving Club is one of the best options for scuba diving in Lefkada, they offer several diving courses that provide a great scuba diving experience in Greece. The most popular sports on the island are windsurfing and kite surfing due to the strong winds that blow in some bays in summer afternoons. The best spots for surfing in Lefkada are the beaches of Agios Ioannis and Vassiliki. There are some surfing centers there that rent equipment and offer courses. The countryside of Lefkada is mountainous and offers great chances for hiking and mountain biking. Old hiking trails have been signposted and lead to mountainous villages, small forests and waterfalls. Mountain biking and cycling tours are also organized by local companies and vary in difficulty.


What better way to explore Lefkada and surrounding Islands than with a boat ride. There are more than 15 boat tours including the Sail Ionian Yacht Charter, the Odysseia boat tour, and the Nisos Yacht Charter. The most recommended starts from Nidri, Lefkas and makes its first stop at the Porto Katsiki beach where you can enjoy a swim. It then heads to the seaside town of Fiskardo in Kefalonia Islands, where you can enjoy a walk through the ancient alleyways dating back to the 17th and 18th century.


At the outskirts of Nidri you can find the Dimossari waterfalls. During the summer the waterfalls make the perfect place for swimming in the crystal clear waters of the lake. You should also visit the nearby seafront village of Nidri.


Temple of Lefkata Appollona : It is believed that the spot where the lighthouse now stands (60m above sea level), was where sacrifices to the gods were made. However, after the 6th century, desperate lovers chose that spot to make their own sacrifices. Lefkaditiki Gi Winery (a visiting winery) : Take a tour and learn a little bit about Lefkada’s wine. The winery obtains its grapes from local small and medium vineyards. Their superb wine is the best way to wrap up your vacation with a final view of Lefkadas’ sunset.


Lefkada Festivals & Cultural Events

The traditional aspect of Lefkada is well-maintained throughout the centuries bringing inhabitants closer to the old customs. All year round, the island organizes religious festivals celebrating the patron saints of the villages with food and drink. Religious feasts & festivals : August 15th is the celebration of the Monastery of Faneromeni in Frini, above Lefkada Town. This is a popular pilgrimage on Lefkada island. July 7th is when the locals celebrate the feast of Agia Kyriaki in the villages of Nydri and Vliho. Cultural events : Traditional wedding In August : the residents of Karia organise a revival of a traditional wedding, during which the bride is decorated and then the wedding procession takes place. International Folklore Festival : it aims to reunite people with common traditions. It is held annually during the last week of August, including a parade and interesting events with famous dancing groups. Valaoritia Festival : it takes place in Nydri and it is dedicated to the memory of Aristotelis Valaoritis, an important poet with origin from Lefkada.

Travel to Lefkada


Lefkada can be reached by plane. Aktion international airport is located 18km away from Lefkas town. It might be easier to fly to Athens and then take a local flight to Lefkada... or rent a car in Athens and drive 2 and a half hours to Lefkada.
