Paros Island life

Around the island, visitors can find lovely villages by the sea. Parikia, the capital of Paros, is a beautiful Cycladic village with whitewashed cubic houses and impressive neoclassical mansions. A well preserved 13th century Venetian castle stands proudly on a hill at the centre of the village offering an amazing view of Parikia. In the capital you can also admire an important ecclesiastical monument, the 6th century church of Panayia Ekatontapyliani.


Paros has some of the best and most innovative restaurants in the Greek islands. There are many great places to dine where you can not only sample traditional Greek cuisine, but food from many countries of the world. Paros is worldly known for its sky blue beaches. The Island has many beaches and it is difficult to say which are the best. For families, the Kolymbithres beach is considered ideal .This is an amazing location with fine sand and a rock formation which resembles a lunar landscape, unique and enchanting. Close to Nausa on the north coast are the beaches with the quaint names of 'large and little piperi'. Also there is the beach of Lymnes, the beaches of Santa Maria, Xifari, Lageri and, a little further to the south is the beautiful beach of Ampelas.


Sun-drenched beaches, like Chrissi Akti, Santa Maria and Pounda, welcome sun-loving visitors who want to enjoy the crystal clear sea, the sun or even their favourite water sports! Every year the Windsurfing World Championship is held in Chrissi Akti. On the sea floor of Alyki beach, you can explore the ruins of an ancient town. You can also experience an exhilarating tour all around the coast of the island by canoe or kayak. Walk along “strates”, the trails created by farmers to help them cross the island and transport their goods. It’s like stepping into history.


Paros Festivals & Cultural Events

Throughout the year locals and tourists alike celebrate the island's traditional festivals. Some are religious, others commemorate historical events, while others still are celebrations of everyday life. Each and every church on the island has a name day celebration to honor its' patron saint from the smallest to the biggest. These festivals combine religious elements with more secular themes as after the liturgy, dancing, eating, and drinking are the order of the day. Travel to Paros


Paros National Airport is 11km south of Paros town. Athens to Paros is a 35 minutes direct flight. Athens Airport – Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport, is located 33km southeast of the city centre, Approximatly 30 minutes to an hour by taxi. The airport offers 24/7 train and bus services to Athens and beyond.
